Pastor Reuben J. Leuthold

BUCYRUS: Pastor Reuben J. Leuthold, 92, of Bucyrus, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, October 11, 2010 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Reuben was born May 1, 1918 in Bucyrus to the late John G. and Anne (Spring) Leuthold. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School and then served his country during WWII from 1942 - 1945.

On December 25, 1943, he married Lois M. McDonald who survives. In 1952, Reuben graduated from Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon and in 1955 graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. After his schooling, Reuben returned to the area and worked on the family farm for a short time. He started Youth for Christ and in 1963 he helped found Wayside Chapel and later, Wayside Christian School. He also taught religious education in the public schools and started churches across the United States. He may have retired from the pulpit, but never stopped evangelizing for Christ.

In addition to his wife of nearly 67 years, Reuben is survived by two children, David Leuthold of Bucyrus and Daniel Leuthold and wife, Karen of Midvale, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; along with one sister, Ruth Deutsch of Hubbard, Ohio.

Reuben was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur, Oscar and Russell Leuthold; and a sister, Esther Butchko.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, October 14 at Wise Funeral Service. A private graveside funeral will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Earl Smith officiating and full military rites will be observed by the Am. Legion Post 181. The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be given to the family through the Wise Funeral Service in order to be evenly distributed to multiple organizations. A public memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 16 at Wayside Chapel and all are invited to attend.

Dear Lois,
I'm very sorry and wish to express my condolenses to you and the Leuthold family for your loss. Reuben and Lois were my father and mother inlaw since 1971. I say since in the respect they have always treated me like family through out the years and were the first people who introduced me to jesus although I was not saved back in those days like the other ladys entree the seed was planted and later in life and currenty I have faith in my God and thank them both for always being there for me and never being judgemental just kept their faith and kept me in their prayers. God Bless you both and all the Leuthold family. Your daughter in-law Patty Smith

Dear Lois ,

Having just heard of Reuben, that he now with the Lord. Vera and I are sorry of his passing, but I'm sure he is at work doing something the Lord wants. He will be missed, I'm sure, but not forgotten. Blessing to you and the family at this time of sorrow.

We sure appreciate the life and ministry of Pastor Reuben Leuthold. His radio program and constant witness of Jesus Christ will characterize his memory for us for years to come. We wish Mrs. Leuthold many hours of precious reminiscences of a beautiful and full life together serving our Lord.

I was sorry to read of your loss, but Heaven's gain. In the 70s I was a newlywed, living in City Acres. Pastor Leuthold came for visitation (soul winning). Although I didn't get saved that day, the seed was planted. Praise God for soulwinners. Prayers, Birdie Brown
