Tom Carr Obituary

Tom Carr

Burlington - On July 8, 2019, Tom Carr completed his earthly tour of duty.

Tom was born in Iowa and joined the U.S. Army in 1953. He served with distinction during the Korean War and returned to Iowa where he married Phyllis Hitchcock in 1955. Phyllis survives him, as do their seven children: Thomas, Kevin, Megan, Philip, Matthew, Michael and Padric.

Tom worked for the Burlington Electric Department for 27 years, managing both the Moran Generating Station and later the J.C. McNeil Station where he was the Project Manager during design and construction of that plant.

Tom also leaves behind Helen Coombs, his best friend and companion for 36 years.

"It was a good life."

Burial will be private.

Tom was my client, my boss and my friend. He was not born in 1953, that´s when he enlisted in the army.

Absolutely one of the best of people. It was good fortune to meet him and get to know him. Have missed him very, very much. He guided me through difficult times as well as inspiring me. Yes, you were beloved on this earth, dear Tom. Have you met up with Smoky? Wishing you all you can eat of cookies like Heidi and I made for you. Love❤.

One of the best people I had the good fortune to know. He gave and gave, trusting me to "pay it forward". And I have directed my life in that direction. Tom Carr, you were much beloved. Losing you on this earth is a great loss for us left behind.

As best man at my wedding, he started me on more than 40 years of a wonderful adventure with the love of my life. Our own relationship was also one of many adventures caving and climbing where he was indeed the best man to have around. For the cavers that read this, he will have stories to tell Floyd Collins. For the non-cavers reading this, his stories and wonderful singing voice will brighten up the heavens. May Tom's memory be a blessing.

Helen, my condolences on Tom's passing. I remember him as an interesting and tell it like it is kind of guy who did a lot for the Electric department.
