Christos Condos Obituary
Age: 89 • South Burlington
Christos (Chris) James Condos, 89, of South Burlington, VT passed away peacefully on August 15, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born on June 24, 1926 in Orange, NJ, the eldest son of James and Pariskeve (Paplexopoulos) Condos. Chris had 3 brothers: John and wife Marion, Theodore and wife Georgia (both predeceased), and Basil and wife Evthokia (both predeceased). Chris graduated from Orange (NJ) High School and served in the US Navy during WWII. He attended Seton Hall University before beginning to work in the restaurant business with his father. Chris married Irene (Catacalos), on June 5th 1949 and they were married for 66 years. They later moved their family to Burlington VT where he worked his entire adult life managing restaurants.
Chris is survived by the love of his life, and best friend, Irene, and their 3 children: Jim Condos and his partner Annie Noonan, Ed Condos and his wife Lois, and Maria Blanchette and her husband Mark. Nothing made Chris happier than seeing his grandkids and great grandkids. He leaves 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Christopher Condos, his wife Julie, and children Alex, Griffin, and Sophia; Kellie Ralph and husband Josh, and children Athena, and Caleb; Chelsea Condos and husband Chris Parizo, and children Emerson and Elias; Nicole Kozlowski and husband Matt; and Scott Blanchette. Chris had a passion for word games and was famous for spending many hours playing Scrabble, with his own children and grandchildren, or completing crosswords. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was thankful for the friendship of his many neighbors. Chris and his family were especially thankful for his care from UVM Medical Center, and especially the amazing staff at Allenwood Senior Housing. He was a member, and over the years, active in the leadership at the Greek Orthodox Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Burlington.
Calling hours and a celebration of Chris' life will be at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road on Monday August 17, 2015 from 4 to 6pm. A memorial service will be held privately for family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: The Dormition of the Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 8122, Burlington VT 05402. Dear Condos family,
One Summer in the high school Mr. Condos had 2 applicants to work at KFC on Shelburn Road-that would have been my sister & me during our high school years. Being older, my sister got the job & I worked across the street at HoJo's. The stories my sister would tell me of Chris were hartwarming. Later on my brother applied at K.F.C. and thought highly of Mr. Condos and my brother still works there to this day. Mr. Condos will be sorely missed.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Chris. He and I go back to the old KFC days down on Shelburne Road when KFC was located in the same parking lot as Simmy's Variety. I'll fondly look back on the good times we shared back in "the day". My condolences go out to Chris's family, especially his son Jim whom I had the pleasure of working with for a number of years.
Rest in peace Chris, we will miss you.

Dear Irene (and your extended family),
You have our deepest sympathy for your loss. Chris was a devout Greek Orthodox believer. We are too. He is in heaven. We, like you, the celebrate the long and good life he had. Sometimes I think God puts people in our lives to serve as a lesson or an example. Christos was such a person for not just his family, but all that knew him That absolutely includes me (and Maria) as well.

The nicest man in the world, Chris was a true gentle and kind man. I called on him as a salesman and he always treated me with sinceraty. It was a pleasure for me to call Chris and Irene my neighbor at Malletts Bay camp ground for many years. RIP Chris, you deserve it.
