First Time in Moab
You came in quietly,
slipping under the cool
sheets, pressing skin
to skin as an eighteen-
wheeler howled down
the two-lane into town.

Bets, I know you must be amused at this modern form of expression. I think we'll look at this as a message in the air... I know your mighty, mighty soul is hard at work. Keep an eye on all of us who love you. ... that should keep you busy. See you on the flip side! Peace be with you Lady!

I'm so sad to hear about this. Betsy Stacey Elizabeth made our lives so much fun in the early Ben and Jerry's days; I will always remember her great laugh and sense of craziness. Rest in peace, Betsy.

Betsy lit up my life from the first day of kindergarten – when my family moved to California, I never got over missing her. Shall never forget the special joy when she came with her music teacher to San Diego – we were 12 years old. Later our paths crossed again – in San Francisco (1971), at Appletree Point the summer I studied at Middlebury (1979) and in 1989 when she rescued me from despair – quite literally, she saved my life. Saw her briefly in Burlington when I was on my to start my life over in England (1990). Had lunch with her at the Deer's Head Inn (summer 2010) – she was tired, thin and out of sorts. I wonder, did she know then that she was ill and just didn't want to tell me? Memories will never fade of evenings on the screened porch, eating delicious food, listening to music and talking about life… she touched so many lives and mine was one of them. Irreplaceable, in my heart forever. Sweet sleep, Betsy.

I remember Elizabeth (I called her Bets), as a feisty, highly intellingent, witty and sincerely generous person. She had a lot of soul which came out in her singing. Singing with her in 'The Chapped Lips' was a highlight in my life and a memory I will always treasure. Bets had a great ear for melody and a wonderful way with words- (she also had the biggest vocal range in the group which we definately exploited!) She also had a great sense of style and an eye for beautiful, artistic things. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen Bets in a very long time and was so sad to hear this news. I am thinking of you Emily; another Lip, her cousin and very close friend- I'm so sad for your loss.

Love, laughter, humor incredible, friendship, road trips, politics, and appletree point - her treasure of a home; all filled with warmth, food, song, heart and friends. I am blessed to have been embraced in the glowing aura of Elizabteth's awesome personality - and no doubt, a wiser woman for it. Bets was so sharp - and I think that is what I loved most about her. Her energy, creativity and talent went so far beyond words said today. Elizabeth, with this crazy sad news today, I only take comfort in the thought that the song of your life is resonating through the heavens..you've been singing with the angels for a long, long time. Betsy was my good friend for a very long time, and I hadn't seen her in some years before running into her and Emily at Red Square. And so it was ever the same telling stories and laughing... some more. As for Emily and Elizabeth, that is a story for another to tell about how incredible friendship can be. Em,I am sad for your loss.

I am so terribly sorry to hear this news about Elizabeth. She had such a wry sense of humor and the ability to see things clearly in rather direct ways - something I loved about her. I spent a number of years basking in the legacy of GMPP and GMTI - an incredible gift to so many. The last time I say Elizabeth was a number of years ago when driving through Elizabethtown with a friend on the way to a wedding, we were talking about Elizabeth and then drove by her walking down the street. We had a lovely and laugh filled impromptu reunion. I send you all my very best with so much appreciation for the woman Elizabeth was.
With love -

I did not know Elizabeth; in fact, I never met her. I can tell you that my children thoroughly enjoyed their participation in GMPP, especially my oldest daughter, who is now in her 3rd year at Lyndon State College. She sounds like a wonderful lady who touched many lives, created life-long memories and will be missed terribly.

I was sorry to read that Elizabeth has passed away. I remember her from many years ago, when she sang with "The Chapped Lips" in Burlington, along with our friend, Emily Wadhams. Emily, we are so sorry for your loss.
Elizabeth was a very smart, and beautiful woman. She made a great contribution to our community during her life. RIP.
