TOWN OF RUSSIA – David N. Sickler, 74, of Military Road and formerly of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away on January 24, 2026, at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield, VT, where he had been residing since 2022.

Mr. Sickler was born May 9, 1951, in Herkimer, a son of the late Jay and Marcia (Weakley) Sickler. He graduated as valedictorian of Poland Central School Class of 1969 and went on to attend St. Lawrence University, where he graduated cum laude in 1973.

David had a distinguished 40-year career with the New York State Department of Labor in Ogdensburg, serving as an area manager and supervisor of nine offices. After retiring from that role, he purchased his home in Russia Corners, where he resided until 2022.

An avid antique collector-dealer and classic car enthusiast for many years, David also maintained a lifelong interest in politics. He served as chairman of the Republican Committee in Ogdensburg and remained active in regional and state politics until his retirement.

He is survived by two daughters, Rachel Sickler of Montpelier, VT, and Laurel Sickler of Colchester, VT; and two grandchildren, Tucker and Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, James.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mayo Healthcare for their compassionate and skilled care during the past few years.

A calling hours will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport, NY, on Saturday, January 31 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, with a service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place at Newport Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA, P.O. Box 594, Ogdensburg, NY 13669, or to the Herkimer County Historical Society, 406 North Main Street, Herkimer, NY 13350, two causes important to David. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
