Thomas MacLeod Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by David Lee Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Feb. 13, 2026.
Thomas Woodward MacLeod

Age 95, passed away February 9, 2026. Born in Flushing, New York, Tom was educated at Kent School and St. Lawrence University. He began his career in retail and was transferred to Minneapolis in 1963 to run the then-Young Quinlan department store chain. He reinvented himself to work in the insurance and financial industries before finding purpose working for himself. His last months in hospice were filled with a gratitude so brilliant it outshone his life's challenges. He was grateful for dear friends, living and departed; his appreciation of art, music and literature; a trout in his creel; global travel and north woods' beauty; friendships formed on Lafayette Club's links; his east coast roots and Scottish ancestry; the joy of painting and drawing; 80 years of sailing and boating; 40 years of singing with the Wayzata Community Church choir; a bawdy joke and dram of whisky; his compassionate caregivers; and more. His great love was his college sweetheart and wife of 72 years, Jeanne (Buss) MacLeod to whom he devoted his life. He believed that being a father was the greatest thing to have happened to him and thought all of his grandchildren were amazing. Those who knew him will miss his kindness, strength of character, curiosity, and sense of humor. His final gift was to the organ donor program. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas MacLeod and Henrietta (Doble) Chase, and brother Donald MacLeod, and is survived by Jeanne MacLeod, children Leslie (Jim) Lewis, Carolyn (Ben) Cleveland, Tom MacLeod (Christa Anders) and Jennifer (Eric) Rudie, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, April 9, at 2:00 PM at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd. in Wayzata, MN, with visitation one hour prior and reception to follow. Memorials preferred to the Learning Disabilities Association of Minnesota (LDAminnesota.org). "Hold Fast."
