She was born May 3, 1927, in Butler to the late James Collins and Marguerite (Powell) Collins.
Mrs. Kunkle was a 1945 graduate of West Winfield High School. She then attended business school in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Kunkle was a board secretary for the Sebco Pool Association, secretary of the Saxonburg Presbyterian Church, and secretary at the H.J. Heinz Co. She also was a secretary for the South Butler County School District, where she served as an elementary secretary and an administrative office secretary.

She assisted her daughter with Rainbow Girls activities.
Mrs. Kunkle loved going to yard sales with her two friends, Arlene and Nancy. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and making crafts for a Christmas booth at a nearby church's October festival. Mrs. Kunkle also liked to play cards and often hosted card parties with friends.
She and her husband had a camping trailer and their family went camping frequently with her husband's co-workers and their families. She took frequent bus trips with friends.
She was most proud of being married for 50 years before her husband passed away. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them.

Smith and her husband, Dennis, of Butler; six grandchildren, Alysa Kunkle, Seth Kunkle, Jessica Smith, Jonathan Smith, Jakob Kunkle and Brody Kunkle; two great-grandchildren, Noah Goodnough and Jackson Felder, with another baby due in August; one nephew, Doug Collins; distant cousins; and one stepniece.
