Rudolph Corona Obituary

Rudolph "Rudy" Corona, 88, of Butler, passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Johnstown, Pa.,to the late Candido Corona and the late Maria Estefana de Gasca Corona.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during the Korean War as an aviation machinist mate third class.
Rudy worked as a teacher, coach and athletic trainer in the Butler Area Schools for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Elks Club. Rudy was one of the founding fathers of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Association and was a Certified National Athletic Trainer. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and was an avid fan.
In his retirement, Rudy was an athletic trainer at local high schools and Butler County Community College. He was a coach and mentor to many.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Marjorie, whom he married June 8, 1958; one daughter, Jennifer Galichon and her husband, J.P., of Mahwah, N.J.; two grandchildren, Jacqueline Galichon of Boston, Mass., Jackson Galichon, of Mahwah, N.J.; one sister, Armida Winsauer, of Chicago, Ill.; one niece, Debbie Alongi, of Chicago, Ill.; and three nephews, Rick Corona, of Chicago, Ill., Joseph Corona, of Chicago, Ill., and Kevin Winsauer, of Boise, Idaho.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Corona and Alfred Corona.
CORONA - Friends of Rudolph "Rudy" Corona who died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A Christian funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
Officers and members of American Legion Post 117 of Butler, American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora, and VFW Post 249 of Butler, will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Burial will take place at Butler County Memorial Park.

Please accept our sincere sympathy in the passing of Rudy. He was very special to us beginning in our Junior High School years..you both were just starting your teaching careers at that time. He really influenzed Larry in his teenage years...he was such a mentor. Many times he would see Rudy running down the road getting his exercise...and always waved with a big smile.
We know he will be missed by you and so many others whose lives he enriched.
