VAN HYFTE _ Daniel Henri 1938 - 2008 Daniel Henri Van Hyfte passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the age of 70 years. Daniel was born on April 8, 1938 at Ghent, Belgium. He came to Canada with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. They settled in Minto, Manitoba and later moved to a farm near Irma, Alberta where Daniel finished high school in 1957. As a teenager, Dan was involved in many sports, including hockey, fastball and curling. Curling became his favorite and he played for many years. Dan started work at the local bank in Wainwright, which progressed to a long career with the Alberta Treasury Branch. He worked in several locations including Cardston, Granum, Edmonton, Taber, Didsbury, Caroline and Red Deer. In his later years, Dan enjoyed the comforts of his home, socializing with his nearby neighbors, looking after their dogs, cats and houses whenever they were on vacation. He also visited and helped his mother who lived in an apartment nearby. Dan is survived by his only son, Vince (Lynn) and their children, Michelle and Alicia, two brothers, Rene (Judy) Van Hyfte, Michel (Jeanette) Van Hyfte, a sister, Regine Norlin and numerous nieces and nephews in Alberta and many relatives in Belgium. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon (1965) and Aline (2008), a sister, Mary Marchand (1999) and a brother-in-law, Ernest Norlin (2004). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer on Friday, July 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in Dan's honour may be made directly to the S.P.C.A., 4505 - 77 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 3P7.
