DAVIES _ George B. Mr. George B. Davies, beloved husband of Barbara Davies, passed away in Lethbridge on Thursday, October 9, 2003 at the age of seventy-five. George was born in 1928 at his parents' home in Lethbridge, the fourth child of George B. and May C. Davies. "Chip" graduated from L.C.I. in 1946 and then left Lethbridge to study Agricultural Engineering at the University of British Columbia. It was at U.B.C. that he met his wife Barbara and they were married in Vancouver on October 1, 1952 and have called Lethbridge home ever since. George's career at the Lethbridge Iron Works spanned over fifty years. His role as general manager and owner was instrumental in the Lethbridge Iron Works becoming an industry leader. George was founding president of the Industrial Association of Southern Alberta and served as a director and president of the Lethbridge Country Club. He was also a founding member of the Management Advisory Council at the University of Lethbridge. He was a Kinsmen Club Member and worked on the United Way Business Campaign. George was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. George was recognized frequently in the community for his contributions, including having a scholarship endowed in his name by the University of Lethbridge Faculty of Management. George and Barbara raised four children in Lethbridge, Bart (Cynthia), Sharon (Paul) Fogtmann, Edward (Carol) and John (Karen). He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Dylan (Tonya) Davies and Suzanne Davies, Kristy, Taryn and Alison Fogtmann, Russell and Colleen Davies, and Taylor and Cameron Davies. George also leaves behind his sister Marjorie (Ray) Bower of Winnipeg; brother John (Frances) Davies of Victoria and numerous nephews and nieces. George was predeceased by his parents George and May Davies, his older brother Donald Davies and one grandson Zachary Davies. He was also predeceased by his lifelong friend George M. Watson. George was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing golf, tennis, badminton and fishing. He shared his love of sports with his children. The Davies family thanks George's personal care attendants, Sandra Ferguson and Jennifer Dussome, for their compassionate care and companionship during the last two years of his life. George's wit and passion for life will be missed. A Celebration of George's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 15 at McKillop United Church, 2329 - 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, with Rev. Terry Shillington officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor the memory of George B. Davies may donate to the St. Michael's Health Centre Foundation, 1400 - 9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, T1J 4V5.
