Rudolf Hlede was called home to Christ on Sunday, June 4, 2017 after a brief illness and a life well lived. Rudolf completed his primary education in Sarajevo and high school in Zagreb and followed that with a degree in Mining, Geology, and Petroleum Engineering from the University of Zagreb. After immigrating to Canada in 1968, he completed a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Alberta. While he took pride in his work at Naftaplin and Kupferbergbau Muhlbach in Europe as well as at Echo Bay Mines, Husky Oil and Dome Petroleum in Canada, his true passions were his family, his Catholic faith, his Croatian culture and the local Croatian community. Rudi is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Angela; his son Anton (Ivana); his daughter Isabel (Craig Jenne); and five beloved grandchildren, Adam, Daniel, Klara, Tomislav and Karolina. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Southwood Hospice for taking such loving care of our Dede in his last days. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church (14680 Deer Ridge Drive S.E.) on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Reception to follow. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Our Lady of Marija Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church. In living memory of Rudolf Hlede, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
