Joel H. "Joey" Strickler, 53, of Cañon City, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021. Joel was born January 4, 1968 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania to James Strickler and Grace Gingrich. He proudly served in the United States Army for 13 years, including two tours in Korea and one tour in Kuwait. Joel was always a very hard worker who also worked for Holt Family Funeral Home and with the Fremont County Coroner's office. He was a food enthusiast, always ready for a home-cooked meal, tasty cakes, a chocolate shake or German food. Joel loved Military History, all kinds of music and artists, and was a lover of all animals. He was a loving, Christian man who loved others well with his support, time, care and compassion. Joel was a true family man who was extremely proud to be a dad, Opa, husband, son, brother and friend. I worked with Joel at Fremont Correctional Facility (FCF) and my son, Ben, with him at the Central Transportation Unit (CTU). Joel's humor was infectious, he was dependable, highly supported of his coworkers and was a professional. I am saddened to hear of his passing, he made such an impact in so many other's lives. He demonstrated dedication to his country and state, willingness to serve others, with his service in the US Army and with the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). As a fellow Veteran and retired CDOC, I am well aware of the sacrifices made by those who choose to serve. He will be missed. Farewell, rest in peace Brother.

Such a great man. He was always so fun to be around and always had a joke to tell. I always enjoyed having great conversations with him and laughing more than I can remember. Joel, you will be missed so much.
