Sabatino Pascale Obituary

Sabatino Pascale, MD

age 99, died peacefully in Palm Beach, Florida, surrounded by his loving family, on December 2, 2020. Many friends called him Sam. He was born on November 14, 1921, in Brookfield, Ohio, to Rosalia Polce Pascale and Luigi Pascale. He spent his childhood both in Ohio and in Italy, always considering himself equally American and Italian. He attended scientific lyceum in Caserta, Italy, and medical school in Naples, Italy. In 1941, he was drafted into the Italian army, and served as an officer until 1943, when he joined the Allied Resistance. He spent many months underground, in the Pensione Annalena in Florence, helping British intelligence, and hiding and protecting Jewish families from the retreating Nazis; in later years, he shared stories from this chapter of his life. After graduating from medical school in 1952, he worked as a general practitioner in Caserta and the surrounding areas, making home visits on his Vespa. In 1954 he married Ada D'Ambrosio, a fellow physician whom he had met in medical school. He completed a medical internship in Warren, Ohio, and a medical residency at Aultman Hospital where he was chief resident. He and Ada settled in Canton, where he practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 45 years. He delivered thousands of babies, including the children of those he had delivered, and took great joy in the achievements of those he had brought into this world. He served as Chief of Staff of Timken Mercy Hospital for two terms, and in 2000 was inducted into the Society of St. Luke. For many years he was a clinical professor of Ob/Gyn at Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine. He remained active after his retirement, volunteering at The First Baptist Church Medical Clinic, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and playing tennis into his late 80s. He returned to Italy every summer with Ada, staying in the seaside town of Formia, reuniting with his large extended family. He had a deep knowledge of and passion for Roman history, and took great pleasure in taking his children and grandchildren to explore Roman ruins, most recently in 2017, at the age of 96. Above all, his greatest loves were his family and his work.

His wife Ada predeceased him in 2009 on the date of their 55th Anniversary. He was also predeceased by his parents and his brother Pietro. He is survived by his beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Lia and Mark Heath, and Lucinda and Eric Stonestrom, and by his most adored and adoring grandchildren Nicholas, Atticus and Celia.

Dr. Pascale delivered both of our boys. Greg 1962 and Bryan 1964. 35 years latter Bryan worked for a painting company and he was dent to paint in Dr. Pascale's home. Bryan mentioned he had delivered him. Dr. Pascale called his wife into the room and said "I delivered this boy. Look how he has grown". Bryan is over 6 ft. tall. He was also born on Easter Sunday afternoon. What a compassionate and caring Dr. You have our deepest sympathy.

Dear Lia and Lucinda, I was so saddened to read of your Father Sam's passing. What a full, wonderful life he lived! I will always remember our time together on 22nd Street. Your parents were such good friends to my Mom and Dad and they were always both so very kind to me. I will never forget the Pascale family. Especially because I now sit at your family's dining room table where so many delicious meals were served and prepared by your Mother. (Best pizza EVER!) May all of the good memories you have bring you comfort now and in the future. Sending prayers and love ~

He was my physician who performed OBVYN related related surgery on me when I was 18. He saved my life and made it possible for me to go on and have three kids! He was professional, caring and very attentive. He even came to check on me on his off day. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and I hope he will Rest In Peace!

My sisters and I were the first (but not the last) set of triplets Dr. Pascale delivered in 1967. What a wonderful and dedicated physician and man. RIH, Doc!

Dr. Pascale was the first ob/gyn doctor I ever saw. I was lucky enough to meet him later in life, and have a couple of wonderful conversations with him. Truly a remarkable, kind, and gracious person, and the best doctor I ever had. Rest in peace, Dr. Pascale.

Thank you, Dr. Pascale, for your prompt, caring and excellent care on April 3, 1982, when you saved the life of my daughter, Adriana, who was born through an emergency C-Section that you performed. I knew you were a remarkable doctor, but now after reading your obituary-- I see you were an amazing man in your private life. I am sure you would have found it humorous that my daughter, Adriana, later lived in Italy and studied the language. My prayers to the family during this difficult time. I am sure the presence of God and all the wonderful memories will be of help to you at this time. God bless!

Through the years, I have always thought of and remembered this Kind and Wonderful man. I had two difficult pregnancies in my younger years, yet, my husband & I never felt "alone in the journey"; with this man and fellow doctors Simmons, Grable and Berger making sure things stayed on track. He will be missed by many in Canton, Ohio who were his patients.
