Shirley Johnson Obituary

Shirley Ann (Stokes) Johnson

And the cherished memories that will live on in our hearts and mind; we share our grief and sorrow at the loss of our loved one. We find comfort in that sharing and rejoicing that one who has trusted in the Lord has inherited her eternal reward.

Shirley Ann Stokes Johnson, 83, was granted her wings on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 6:30 a.m. She was known to most family and friends as Mama. She was a very loyal and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was born in Canton, Ohio on January 7, 1938 to the late Coley and Mattie Lou Stokes. She was the youngest of three children. Shirley accepted Christ at a young age at Mt. Calvary 2nd Baptist Church, Canton, Ohio and was a member there for over 65 years until 6 1/2 years ago and she became a member of Union Baptist Church of Canton, Ohio. Shirley's favorite things to do were read her daily bread book, go bowling, shop on QVC and HSN and shop in many catalogs and order clothes not only for herself but for her son and three daughters. She was a true shopaholic who loved to dress and look good. Shirley was also a workaholic, many times working two jobs. She was blessed to retire from the Hoover Company after 31 years of dedicated service.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Stokes Sr.; sister, Barbara Jean Stokes Williams and Carmen Stokes; son, Ronald Stokes Sr.; daughter, Carolyn Stokes Williams; son-in-law, Jerry Williams; grandson, Ronald Stokes Jr.; great granddaughter, Cania Williams and great grandson, Jalen Stokes Dunbar. She leaves to cherish her memories (one) son, Brian "B.J. Johnson; (two) daughters, Patty Stokes Williams, Renee Johnson (Cam) Chappelle; daughter-in-law, Joyce Solomon Stokes; sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson; blessed with (21) grandchildren, and (51) super blessed great grandchildren; her 5th generation of (12) great-great grandchildren; special friends, Brenda Seymour, Carolyn Carter, Arvita McNeil, Doris Turner, Maggie Turner, Sue White, Theresa Morgan, Charlene Ross, Laisha Richardson, Bernice Benson, Delores Hammond, Johnnie Mae Baldwin as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
