Charles V. Primpas

MILTON - Charles V. Primpas, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, after a brief illness, in the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 96.

Born in Boston, Mr. Primpas had lived in Milton since 1960. He was a graduate of Hyde Park High School, University of Vermont, Boston University Law School and MIT School of Engineering.

Mr. Primpas was the owner for many years of the New Yorker restaurant in Chatham, now known as the Chatham Squire. He retired as an engineer from the Honeywell Corp.

A World War II veteran, he served in New Guinea as a major in the Army Air Forces. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds he received in action in 1942.

Mr. Primpas is survived by his wife, Helen (Panesis) Primpas; three sons, William C. Primpas, O.D. of Milton, Speare C. Primpas of West Hollywood, Calif., and Charles V. Primpas Jr. of Marstons Mills. He was the brother of Louis V. Primpas and his wife Judy of Braintree, Poppy Brunker of New Jersey and Eve Welts of Waltham. He also leaves four grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., in St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church, 190 Common St., Braintree. Visiting hours are Wednesday, in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., Milton, from 3 to 7 p.m. Interment is in Milton Cemetery.
