Arthur Scully Obituary

EAST FALMOUTH - Arthur J. Scully, died on Sept. 21, 2007, at the age of 87, after a long illness.

Born in Brockton, he graduated from Harvard University in 1943 as a civil engineer. He served in the Army Air Forces, receiving several military honors as a lead navigator in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II.

Mr. Scully owned and operated Forsythe Shoe Manufacturing Co. in Sagamore for almost 30 years. He served on the board of directors of the Cape Cod Cooperative Bank for 28 years. After retiring from the shoe business, he built 10 houses in Falmouth and also volunteered for the International Executive Service Corps in Greece, Panama, Mexico, and Jamaica.

Married 63 years to Edith L. Dwight Scully, he lived on the Cape for more than 58 years. He and his wife wintered in Florida for 20 of those years.

Mr. Scully was a champion badminton player, an avid golfer, a sailor, and an organist. He and his wife were founding members of the local Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

He is survived by his wife, Edith; and four children, Stephen Scully of Florida, Patricia Stimpson of Boston, Karen Cardeira of Falmouth, and Crystal Rubachko of California; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial reception is being held at the family home at 50 Eel River Road, East Falmouth, on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Burial is private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

My heartfelt condolences to the Scully family. If my memory serves my right, you all were 'down-the-street' neighbors of mine in So. Dennis back in the 50's. I still remember you all fondly.
