Gerald T. Quinn

FALMOUTH — Gerald T. "Jerry" Quinn, 77, passed away at home on Wednesday after a long illness. Born in Newton, Jerry was the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Barry Quinn, and is survived by his wife, Cheryl Robb Quinn. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed traveling, the Red Sox and his family.

Jerry was the proud father of seven children: Mary Jean (Quinn) Fryar, Karen Quinn-Quintin, James Quinn, Kevin Quinn, Maureen (Quinn) Mahoney, Robert Quinn and Christina (Quinn) Izzo. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; four stepchildren; a brother, Peter Quinn; sisters Marian Cove and Susan Quinn; former wife, Jean McAdams Quinn; and many beloved friends.

A graduate of Northeastern University, Jerry was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves in Groton, Conn., and served on submarines. He began his successful professional career at the John Hancock Life Insurance Co., and worked for many years at Mass Mutual as a pension consultant. In retirement, he was a driver for White Tie Limousines.

A sports enthusiast, Jerry loved to ski and golf for many years. He was a member of the Falmouth Ski Club and used to run annually in the Springfield SIDS Race, always with the same race number — "911." He was an avid Red Sox fan and had season tickets to the New England Patriots for some time. He served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Newton.

Jerry greatly enjoyed spending time at his second home in Delray Beach, Fla. He loved the sun and going to Boston's Restaurant. His other joy in recent years was traveling the world with his wife. He also made annual trips to Ireland with a large group of friends from Springfield.

Jerry appreciated the kind and skilled care of Dr. Victor Aviles and Dr. Daniel Cannaday throughout his illness.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, in St. Thomas Chapel on Falmouth Heights Road.
