FALMOUTH - Harry J. Scanlan, 80, of Falmouth, died June 19, 2007.

Born in Port Washington, N.Y., Mr. Scanlan was raised in Danbury, Conn. He lived for 25 years in Milton and had lived for the past 15 years in Falmouth.

He graduated from Georgetown University in 1949 with an AB degree in history. He also attended MIT in the Engineering Department.

Mr. Scanlon entered the family wool business in New York City after graduation from Georgetown University. Two years later, he joined his father-in-law's construction business, M.S. Kelliher Co. When his father-in-law passed away, Harry assumed the presidency of the company. Harry was very involved with the Building Trades Association Formation and stayed involved with the Building Trade Association through his tenure with M.S. Kelliher Co. He was president of the M.S. Kelliher Co. from 1958 to 1970. He was also vice president of J.K. Scanlon Co.

A World War II veteran, he served the Army Air Forces. He was a member of the Employers Bricklayers Association, Boston, and was a former chairman of the Falmouth School Building Committee for eight years. He enjoyed military history.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Laurette (Kelliher) Scanlan of Falmouth; his children, Harry J. Scanlan Jr. of Sandwich, John K. Scanlan and Eileen A. Scanlan, both of Falmouth, and Richard M. Scanlan of Quincy; his siblings, Mary M. Scanlan of Mashpee, Margaret Platka of Gardnerville, Nev., and Joseph Scanlan of Bristol, R.I.; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 22, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, Milton. Burial is in Milton Cemetery, Milton.

Visiting hours are Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215, Attention: Memoriam Dept.
