Peter Shipman Obituary
Peter was born in London, Ontario, Canada, on Aug. 25, 1934, the son of Cora (Foster) and Gerald Totten Shipman. He was a 1956 graduate of Dartmouth College and served proudly in the Marine Corps.
Peter's life was defined by his family loyalty, unwavering determination and generosity to all. Anyone that knew Peter was the beneficiary of his enormous heart.
His passion for the financial markets, after years as a Wall Street executive, was only outweighed for his passion for his family and Dartmouth baseball.
Pete is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of 47 years, Joan Chessman Shipman of Naples, Fla.; daughter, Julie Shipman of Buda, Texas, and her son Caleb (11); son, Jim Shipman of Salt Lake City, Utah, his wife Julie and their three sons Peter (17), Hank (14) and Jack (10); son, Jerry Shipman of New York, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Shipman family will hold a celebration of Peter's life on Thursday, May 7, at 3 p.m., at the Club at Pelican Bay, 707 Gulf Park Drive, Naples.
Peter's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to "Friends of Dartmouth Baseball" sent to Bob Whalen, Baseball Office, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755.

Of all my friends' fathers, Pete was one of the best. I will never forget how he helped me out by putting in a good word for me after landing a job at one of his old partner's firms. Without his help it would have been difficult and I will never forget that.

Pete was my best friend throughout scouting, cross-country hitch-hiking adventures, summer jobs in N.J. , mining and semi-pro baseball in Climax, CO and he manuevered out of Fort LeJeune to be the best man at our wedding in 1958. My family says more stories from my middle youth involve Pete than any other of my buddies from that period. Barbara and I raised a toast to Peter and Joan on the evening we heard of Pete's passing.
We both treasure the rich memories of Pete.
