Rebecca C. Ames

CENTERVILLE — Rebecca Cahoon Ames, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at the JML Care Center in Falmouth.

Born in Woods Hole on March 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Samuel T. and Elsie G. Cahoon. Rebecca grew up in Woods Hole, attended The Woods Hole School, and graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth. She attended Lasell Jr. College and graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

She worked as an interior designer for Paine's Furniture in Boston before marrying Walcott R. Ames in 1945. They lived and raised their family in Osterville, and she later moved to Centerville.

Rebecca is survived by her four children, Rodney W. Ames and his wife, Nancy, of Cotuit, JoAnn A. and her husband, Joseph, Borsari of Brewster, Lucinda A. and her husband, Lee, Savery of West Falmouth, and Brenda A. Mazzeo of Osterville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Cynthia C. Smith of Woods Hole and Elsie Frances C. Shepherd of Woods Hole and Maine. Rebecca was predeceased by her brother, Samuel T. Cahoon Jr.

As a young girl, Rebecca sailed with her family in Woods Hole. She enjoyed the water and respected the possible changes that incur with the weather on Cape Cod.

Rebecca loved the arts and was a talented designer. During her life, she enjoyed rug braiding, painting, knitting, and needlepoint. There were many years that she orchestrated trips to Vermont with her children. Most important to her were her children, grandchildren, and family.

Funeral services will be held in United Methodist Church, 57 Pond St., Osterville, on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be held in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills, on Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
