HYANNIS — Roger Edward Pyy, age 70, passed away on Feb. 28, 2009, at Epoch of Brewster, after an extended illness.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marion (Higgins) Pyy.

Roger was born on Oct. 4, 1938, to John William Pyy and Lillian Frances (Childs) Pyy. Roger was a native Cape Codder, growing up in Harwich and graduating from Harwich High School in 1956.

Roger and his family owned and rode horses for many years and participated in many Rough Rider functions. He loved to talk on the CB and his handle was The Alleycat. He also liked to play golf.

Roger was a long distance truck driver for more than 25 years, driving for Eldredge and Bourne Moving and Storage Co., Mayflower Van Lines and Brewster Plastics. He also worked on the freight dock and drove truck for Sun Transportation, retiring from there in June 2004. In addition, he worked at The Cape Cod Times until his illness forced him to retire.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Craig S. Pyy and and Kathy Densore of Gorham, Maine, and Bryan M. Pyy and his wife Leah of Bath, Maine; a stepson, Jay E. Bartlebaugh of Hyannis; a stepdaughter, Audrey Bartlebaugh of Wareham; a sister, Phyllis A. Lapp of Brick, N.J.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher K. Pyy, and his brother, Richard Pyy. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends, especially his longtime friend, Warren "Skip" Nelson and his wife Elizabeth, now of Hobe Sound, Fla.

A very special thank you to Liz, Ronnie, Lucia, Jean, and all the staff at Epoch for the excellent care given to Roger during his stay there.

Funeral services will be held in the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28), Marstons Mills, on Thursday, March 5, at 11 a.m. Burial is in Crocker Park Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Roger was known for his love of all animals, especially his cats, Miss Nosy and Oreo. He also liked to sit on the deck and hand feed the squirrels in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The MSPCA, 1577 Falmouth Road, Centerville, 02632, Epoch Hospice Care, 111 Headwaters Drive, Harwich, MA 02645, or to a charity of one's choice.

Marion and family,

We are truly sorry for your loss. Roger was a great guy. I can remember sitting around the kitchen table either talking about what went on at the bank, Rogers’s road trips when he was working for Brewster Plastics or talking on the CB.
Our pray’s are with you and your family.
