Robert James Rice Jr.

Robert James Rice, Jr., a resident of Odenton, MD, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. He was 77. Robert was born on January 26, 1938 in Hinton, West Virginia and was the son of the late Robert James Rice, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Nee Shumate Rice. Robert was raised in Portsmouth, Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia. Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rose Marie Rice of Odenton, MD; two loving sons, James Kevin Rice and wife, Karin of Severna Park, Maryland and James Lawrence Rice and wife, Carrie of Arlington, Virginia; five cherished grandchildren, Ella, Bobby, Caroline, Emily and Margaret; and his faithful granddog Madison. Robert spent his professional career at the Food and Drug Administration, initially as a Field Inspector and retiring as Deputy Director, Division, Regulations Policy. He enjoyed family life and close friendships, visiting National and State Parks across the country, model trains and various other hobbies and pursuits. A Memorial Service will be held at the Christian Community Presbyterian Church, 3120 Belair Drive, Bowie, Maryland 20715 on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 6:00 PM In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, Maryland 21122 or the Christian Community Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
