Arthur Green Obituary

Arthur ("Art") Frederick Green, 76, of Arnold, passed away on January 15, 2021, after a brief illness. Rather than holding a traditional and somber funeral service, the family plans--in keeping with Art's wishes and his character--to host a celebration of his life when conditions allow. Art and his beloved wife, Judith ("Judy") Thurston Green, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2020. Nearly inseparable from the day they met on a blind date in 1968, Judy and Art built a wonderful life together, maintaining lasting and loving relationships with intersecting and ever-expanding circles of family and friends. Art was a wonderful and affectionate father to son Scott Green of Arnold and daughter Candace Green Orsetti of Annapolis, and a devoted and adoring "Dad-Dad" to granddaughters Cameron and Anna Green. He was exceptionally close to his daughter-in-law, Danielle (Blakely) Green, and his son-in-law, Santuria Orsetti, and both of them loved him just as fiercely in return. Over the decades, Art and Judy traveled extensively, visiting 44 U.S. states and dozens of countries. They especially loved to travel with family and enjoyed numerous multigenerational vacations. Early in 2020, they flew to Argentina and then cruised to Antarctica, their seventh continent together. Outgoing and personable, the couple made new friends on every trip, often forming lasting friendships with travelers of all ages. A bit of a ham, Art was known to employ eye-catching props as a way to spark conversations with fellow travelers and passers-by. Everyone who met Art liked him immediately. He was kind, funny, witty, warm, generous, humble, honest, hard-working, and genuine-to name just a few of his virtues. People enjoyed Art's company, in part because of his cheery nature and infectious sense of humor, including his many "Dad jokes." Art was always willing to lend a helping hand, earning a well-deserved "Mr. Fix-It" reputation among family, friends, and neighbors. Art served in the U.S. Navy from 1964–1969, then enjoyed a lengthy career as a graphic artist for the National Security Agency, until retiring in 2008. He remained in touch with many of his friends from work. Art's artistic and construction talents were put to good use just last October, when, in collaboration with a whole new set of friends and admirers, he designed and built the "Spriggs Cove" sign at the entrance to that community along Mago Vista Road. In addition to his nuclear family, Art is survived by a loving extended family of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as countless friends and his cherished dog, Coco. Art was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Royer) and Zachary Green of Catonsville; and his sister, Joy Barnes, of Portland, Maine. To honor Art's affinity for Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay, donations may be made in his memory to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, www.cbf.org/tribute. Art's family is heartbroken by his loss. They are profoundly grateful for the tremendous support from the many others who loved him and the comfort and laughter evoked by the fond memories they have been sharing.

I met Art in 98, when I came to work at the shop. Right then I knew this office was going to be fun and exciting. His humor and willingness to help folks was boundless.
He was the consummate craftsmen, with great attention to detail, and ways to create things with limited resources. He always created his projects to last. His favorite motto was, “If it’s not overbuilt, it’s not Green built.”
I was saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great man, with a heart of gold.
My deepest sympathies go out to his family.

A great picture of a great Guy!!! I worked with Art for many years, he was very talented, creative, devoted and hard working. There was never a job that he wouldn’t take on and exceed expectations. If there was anything he couldn’t do I don’t know what that would be. Everyone got along with Art, he always had a smile and was fun loving. There are people you meet in life that contribute so much to your life and are such a joy to be around - Art was one of those people!!! Art accomplished and seen so much in his lifetime - you could said his was a life well lived. I feel very blessed to have known him, and as Bob Hope would say “Thanks for the memories”

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Art at his home, where his wonderful wife Judy was hosting a get together for the "golf bunch". Art had prepared a delicious gazpacho with shrimp and shared the recipe. Most outstanding for me was when he went inside the home and came back with a duck, yes, a duck!!! and he made that duck turn his head at the most surprising moment just to startle and laugh. ok a fake duck

What a wonderful time and I know that he is having fun in heaven, while we grieve on earth. Many hugs Judy and kids.

Beautifully written for an amazing man. We met "Mr. Green" when we moved to the neighborhood in 2007. Over the years he became a dear friend - he insisted we call him Art! He was always there to lend a helping hand or share a joke. We loved spending time with Art and Judy at our local spot or having brunch/dinner at their home. Always a welcoming smile, our friends quickly became their friends. Oh and those glistening eyes shined through especially when he dressed as Santa - he loved spreading the holiday cheer to everyone he met!

What an amazing, welcoming, active community member Art was! I will forever remember his sense of humor, his helpful spirit, and his bigger than life personality. He surely has impacted so very many.

Art was a wonderful, funny, and generous man, still remember when he helped us put up trim for our windows. Bonus he made us a cute bird house that still hangs in our front tree. He will be missed by all but especially by his family who are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh my, Art was one-of-a-kind. I had the pleasure of working with him, and the owner of one of his illustrations "Thomas Point Lighthouse". It hangs in my computer room so I look at it on many occasions, and always thought of Art. He called me after receiving my Anniversary card. I will always treasure that conversation. I left in 1995 so he had a little trouble remembering exactly who I was but after a few memories, it all came back! So sorry for your loss. He was loved by many.
