Eric Sheldon Obituary

Eric Yeates Sheldon, Jr., age 28 of Eldersburg, died on Monday, September 4, 2017, at his residence. Born August 21, 1989 in Baltimore at Sinai Hospital, he was the son of Kimberly A. and Eric Y. Sheldon, Sr. of Eldersburg. Eric attended Century High School and was a proud member of the graduating class of 2007. While at Century, Eric was a co-founder of a school spirit group called Gang Green. His strong sense of community and support for his school continued at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 2011. Eric enthusiastically supported the Maryland basketball, football, soccer, and lacrosse teams, attending countless games and cheering enthusiastically in the student section with his friends and family. In addition to pursuing his degree at UMD, Eric was a member of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity and participated in numerous local community service and social events. After graduation, Eric continued his education by earning an associate's degree in accounting from Carroll Community College, where he earned several academic honors. Eric subsequently formulated strategic business and tax planning for Sheldon Brothers, LLC and generously donated his time to conducting pro bono tax preparation for low income tax payers. Eric was a well-rounded, compassionate individual with an immense number of talents and accomplishments, including earning a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do at a young age, playing guitar, and competing in travel baseball and soccer leagues growing up. After undergoing an injury that prevented him from playing sports for a year, he took on the role of managing a Sykesville Baseball team and led his senior league team to the championship game. He was a kind-hearted young man who thoroughly loved spending time with and taking care of his family's huskies, Cali and Chaos. During his spare time, he also enjoyed computer programming and was always challenging himself to learn new programming tricks on the computer. Eric was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend who was cherished and loved by many. His survivors, in addition to his parents, include his sister, Jenna M. Sheldon of Eldersburg; grandfather, Thomas T. Collier of Westminster; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Courtney R. and Elizabeth Yeates Sheldon and Lois B. Lendle. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10am to 11am at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will follow at 11am. Interment to follow at Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, Eric's family is requesting those who wish to contribute, to provide a donation to the American Red Cross, Humane Society of Carroll County, or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in Eric's honor.
