Henry Meyer Obituary

Henry Woodrow Meyer November 18, 1917 February 21, 2013 Henry Woodrow Meyer, of State College, passed away Feb. 21, 2013, at Brookline PineCastle, State College, following a short illness. Born on Nov. 18, 1917, in Rebersburg, he was the son of Henry A. Meyer and Cora (Boob) Meyer, of Rebersburg. He was the last of seven siblings. On Oct. 18, 1947 he married Ruth G. Mingle at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg. Ruth preceded him in death, passing away on Oct. 17, 2012. He was a 1935 graduate of Miles Township High School. After serving 3½years in the army in the Central Pacific theater of operations, he accepted a position with Prudential Financial in Williamsport. During his tenure at Prudential, he managed and led the State College sales office to numerous national sales awards, including multiple Prudential President's Citations. He retired after 31 years of service as the Sales Manager in State College. He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg and served many years as an elder emeritus and, also, as Treasurer. He was a 50 year member of Ivy Lodge 397 Free and Accepted Mason's Lodge in Williamsport, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Valley of Williamsport, Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, the State College Elks Club and Centre County Shrine Club. Along with his wife (Ruth), Woodie was a strong supporter of furthering educational advancement, establishing charitable endowments with Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Akron University in Akron, Ohio and Cedar Crest College in Allentown. He is survived by three sons, Richard A. Meyer (Nancy), of Aaronsburg, Dr. William H. Meyer (Irma), of Edmond, Okla., and Dr. Michael D. Meyer (Dr. Nicola Beisel), of Lake Bluff, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Patrick, Eric, Meghan, Rachel, Kimberly, Katherine and Steven; and three great grandchildren, Presley, Natalie and Graham. Also surviving is one brother in law, William O. Mingle (Joy) and their children, Jeffrey, Joy, and John. Woodie was preceded in death by his son Michael's first wife, Dr. Elizabeth Meyer. Family and friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Aaronsburg. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Leigh Pick officiating. Woodie will be laid to rest in the Reformed Cemetery in Aaronsburg.
