I am one of the many patients that Dr. Cathcart snatched from the jaws of death. In 2003, when he appeared in my room to advise me of the need for emergency surgery, I had no idea who he was. Being new to Charleston and not having surgery in over twenty years, this was the last thing I ever imagined. Yet here I was at Roper, about to place my life, and future, in the hands of an unknown…yet, there was that “something” about Dr. Cathcart that gave me hope. Maybe it was his quiet voice, friendly smile and gentle manner, but more so, it was that aura of peace and confidence that seemed to flow through his hands. The following week was a nightmare, only made bearable by his care and concern.

A year later I again returned to Roper and although by that time Dr. Cathcart felt unable to do a new surgery, he was still by my side. Assisting Dr. Parker—and holding my hand with his own healing ones.

What a gentleman…what a legacy of love and life he has left this world. I know his family is so proud of him, in every way. And I feel sure that the heavenly gates were wide open to receive this doctor, husband, father and grandfather—and all the angels applauded this servant of God who went far beyond the call of duty.

God bless Dr. Cathcart—and God bless and comfort his family.

Dear Mimi, Bill and the Cathcart clan.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bobby's death. I was out of town and just read the obituary today.

I remember Bobby well. I remember what a presence he was, and I know what an impact he had on his patients, the lives he changed in Vietnam and his community of Charleston. His sense of humor was legendary and the man could throw a football the length of the Horse lot. I can not remember Bobby with out thinking of Mimi.

My prayers are with you. Gods peace.

Being one of the nameless, faceless many thousands on which Dr Cathcart practiced his skill, I was disheartened to learn of his illness and loss. Although our encounters were brief, I will always remember him as a man of integrity and skill who loved and deeply cared for people, enjoyed humor, and always took time to share their humanity. A great man and a great loss.

I am truly very sorry to hear of Dr. Cathcart's death. He was a very special doctor to me, as he performed 2 serious surgeries on me and took great care of me during the recuperative period. He was like no other surgeon I have ever dealth with because he was 'special.' There is comfort though knowing that John 11:25-27 promises a resurrection for those who go to sleep in death. God's son, Jesus Christ, gave us the reassurance that those who paid their dues in this life will have a chance to be resurrected to a world where there will be no pain, crying or sickness but life in a Paradise. He deserves it, truly. He loved mankind and tried to help them. We love him for his love of neighbors. My condolences to the family of this kind man and friend.

Please accept my condolences on your loss. Dr. Cathcart was a very kind, distinguished and well-respected gentleman in this community. I did not know him as well as I would have liked to, however, he left a lasting impression, as I am sure was the case with many other folks he met. In the days ahead, I am sure you will find comfort in remembering the many things that made him so very special. I know he had a great sense of humor and those things should make you laugh and remember him in the context that I feel sure he would like you to. I will continue to pray for you and your family but know you are in my thoughts daily as you learn to deal with the loss of such an accomplished man.

Love to all,

May God bless you in this time of sorrow.

Dr. Cathcart was a wonderful man and will sorely be missed by his patients, co-workers, family and friends!

I was a patient of Dr. Cathcart 10 years ago. He diagnosed me with a rare form of breast cancer at a very young age of 19. I feel very strongly that it is due to Dr. Cathcarts' excellence in patient care that I am still alive today!

Dr. Cathcart was a very special man! I have thanked God on numerous occasions that myself and my family have been blessed to have him as our doctor over the years!

I was so saddened to hear of Dr Cathcart's passing. He was always so nice to me when I worked at St Francis and then took a chance and hired me to do insurance billing at the office with no previous insurance experience. For this I will always be grateful to him and Dr Parker because it gave me a career that I still enjoy today.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss and the community's loss of a fine surgeon and gentleman.
