Melanie Mullin Obituary

Melanie Lee Mullin HUNTERSVILLE - Melanie Mullin, 34, died Monday, November 18, 2013, after a battle with breast cancer. Melanie was born December 18, 1978, in Denver, Colo., to Robert and Doris Gulmatico, and grew up in Las Vegas. She moved to Huntersville in 2007 and most recently worked as a registered nurse at Novant Health in Charlotte. Melanie loved to play the piano and the ukulele; was a certified Elton John fanatic; and excelled in the sport of triathlon. She founded the Team KCA non-profit organization in an effort to motivate cancer survivors to stay physically active. A perpetual optimist, she inspired everyone around her - even working as a chemotherapy nurse while undergoing treatment herself. Her most cherished time was spent with her family that she loved so much. Melanie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ramon Gulmatico Jr. Along with her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Mike Mullin; sister, Christy Gulmatico; niece, Riyann Thomas; grandparents, Brenda Gulmatico and Shirley and Lyle Giegling; and pit bull Harley, a cancer survivor himself. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville. Friends also may offer condolences to the family at www.raymerfh.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Team KCA at www.team-kca.org/how-to-donate/

"My Melanie" is my little cousin. Just like she played at our grandmother's funeral..-"candle in the wind". She is "the bomb" my pride & joy. And I'm so honored 2 know that she loved me. I will miss my cousin so much. Her smile is her trademark-that matches her kindness class and style. I miss you girl. Until later. Aileen M.

She sat in my 8th grade Geography class. She shined in a way most of us don't. Breaks my heart to see that dimmed. She shines on, just not here, for now.
