HORACE JORDAN Obituary

Horace W. Jordan, age 95, a longtime resident of Wilmette and Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Dec. 14, 2011 surrounded by his family at his home. Born in 1916, Mr. Jordan grew up as the second son of John and Natalie Jordan in the shadows of Wrigley Field where he witnessed Babe Ruth's called home run, but, alas, no World Series championship. He was a proud alum of the Francis Parker School, Amherst College and Northwestern University School of Law, graduating near the top of his class from each of these cherished institutions. After law school, he worked for the legal department of Montgomery Wards. A few years later he enlisted in the Army, serving as an officer in the Counter Intelligence Corp during World War II. After his military service, he eventually returned to Chicago to form the law firm of Van Duzer, Gershon, Jordan & Petersen. He retired in 1986 and devoted himself to non-profit organizations and pursued his love of reading, traveling, sailing and sharing time with his family. He married the love of his life, Constance Tippens Jordan, in 1951 declaring that decision as the luckiest thing he ever did. Together they raised four children, Robert Y. Jordan, Constance Jordan Lochridge, David C. Jordan and Horace (Hob) W. Jordan, Jr. Mr. Jordan was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather to seven and great-grandfather to three. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Connie; his children, Bob, Connie (Scott) and Hob (Diana); his grandchildren, Kati (Stephen), Natalie (Craig), Scott, Calla, Gwendolyn, Taryn and Charlotte; his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Wesley Kate and Blake; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; and his son, David. A private family service will be scheduled shortly. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in his name.

Not a week has gone by that I haven't thought about Horace, a great lawyer, mentor and teacher of not just how to be a lawyer but how to be honest, ethical and moral in all dealings.
