To Jim's family: As we approach this sad anniversary, I wanted you to know that Jim is - and will always be - fondly remembered. My Debt Investments class has learned what he meant to me, and how very much he meant to the financial services industry. I do my best for the students; but they would have benefitted so much more by hearing from Jim Spiotto. May God comfort and bless you all. Wayne Strauss

To Jim's Family: I'm so sorry for your loss; really, our loss. I just found this while seeking background information to introduce Jim to my upcoming Debt Investments class at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. He had spoken with my class before, and I hoped to have him speak with us again this year.

I knew Jim through my work at OppenheimerFunds, where I was Product Manager for a line of municipal bond mutual funds. He helped us with many things, and was the smartest, nicest and most interesting man I ever met. I try to follow his example; but those are impossibly big shoes to fill.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Peace.

Thinking of the family and wishing them comfort and peace

March 2, 2020

Dear Ann and Family:

My deepest condolences on the sudden passing of your husband, father, grandfather, brother, and brother-in-law. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Jim during my time at UIC as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement, supporting Dean Michael Pagano and the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs. Jim was a founding member of CUPPA's Board of Visitors, now known as the Dean's Council. He brought a great deal of interest and passion to his position and we will always be grateful for his leadership, friendship and support. He cared a great deal about our students, faculty and programs--that's just how Jim was.

Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. As we journey through Lent, let us remind ourselves of The Cross that Jesus lovingly carried for us and the Resurrection that gives us hope, peace and joy on Easter morning.

Sincerely,
Mark Valentino

Dear Ann and Family,

When my father (fellow member of the bar) passed almost three years ago, Jim told me "we lost one of the great ones." Today, I can only say, "We have lost the greatest."

I never had the honor of knowing Jim via his personal life, however professionally he is simply irreplaceable. Jim's knowledge of so many facets of municipal law helped deepen my personal knowldge which supported my professional career in so many ways that I cannot begin to identify.

Jim will be forever missed in the municipal finance community. I am sorry I never had the opportunity to let him know how much he helped me. Please accept my condolences.

May his memory be a blessing,

Sincerely,

Peter Glick

Ann and all, I'm so sorry to read this. Jim was a gentleman through and through, now gone to God. I'm so glad we re-connected accidentally some years back, long after our St Juliana days, and we enjoyed and laughed over common memories from those good years. May he know our God's peace and perfect creation now, and may you all know God's sustaining grace as you mourn.
