To the Elsik family,
I played basketball at the Park District for many years with John. Because of a knee injury ,I stopped playing basketball and our friend Tony Achilles just told me about the passing of John. I was shocked. John and I would spend a lot of time talking in the parking lot after basketball. He always had a great attitude and I enjoyed being on his team.
My sincere sympathy.

To the Elsik family,
In preparing to pay my respects to someone else at Modell's, I found out about John's passing. I am devastated.
I had the great pleasure of playing Park District basketball with John. The small group of us men who played together for many years loved John.
He was always upbeat, made newcomers feel welcome, and always complimented anyone who had performed well. I can't recall a time when John didn't have a smile on his face. Oh my, did this really happen. Please, please accept my deepest sympathy, even though somewhat belated. I wish that I was there to say a last goodbye. God speed, John. Your memory will be eternal.

To the Elsik family,
I just found out about the passing of John. I send my belated condolences for your sudden loss. Although I only knew John for a couple of years, when my company joined with DSI, as DSI -Lang Geotech, I remember him as a genuine, caring person always willing to help out. Also, I am sure John will be sorely missed in the DSI community clan. In you time of grieving, I trust the memory of what a good loving person John was will bear you up, and stay with you always.

Dear Linda and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about John’s sudden passing. I grew up across the street from him and always considered John to be a very special friend. We spent many years hanging around together on the west side getting into the normal mischief that kids got into back then. I have dozens of fond memories of John and the guys playing sports in the street or alley from dawn to dusk all year long. Back in the day we never sat around the house and watched TV or even knew what a computer looked like. Our mothers made sure we were always playing outside.
Your dad as you might have guessed was always a very good athlete. Not only in basketball because of his height, but as a wide receiver in football all you had to do was throw the ball up high and let John go after it and he would make the play. Because of his fun loving personality John was always very popular growing up. From reading the others in this guest book I can see that John never changed. He truly was a thoughtful and caring person. We were all lucky to have shared some special times with him.
With deepest sympathy,
Mike Severin

Elsik Family,
I have worked with John for the past few years on helping him with property tax issues in Texas. I probably talked to John 8-10 times a year by phone. Not much time in the big picture. But I can truly tell you that John was an absolutely wonderful person. His presence was of kindness, honesty, and charm. He will be missed. I wish your family the best.

Dear Elsik Family.
I knew John from the day he started at DSI and you could not ask for a more wonderful man. Though I was not in his department, he was always helpful when I need his direction. He's definitely with our Lord and we will miss him greatly. Your family is in our prayers.

Dear Linda and family, I was very sad and surprised to hear of John's death. I had the distinct honor and pleasure of working with John over the last 14 years on the insurance side of things for DSI. He was always very prompt, very responsive and had a wonderful sense of humor. It was evident that all who worked with John across the country enjoyed him and respected him immensely. We rarely meet someone as special as John in our lives. A few of us just had lunch with him this past Thursday and he spoke of his last vacation and how much he enjoyed it. We talked about the White Sox and promised him 4 tickets so that all of you could go. He said "he'd be king for a day" with those tickets for the family. I will pray for John and all of you at this very sad time. He was a gentleman above all and I will miss him greatly.

Dear family of John Elsik,
I've worked with John for the past fifteen years...from a distance. I work in Texas and constantly relied on John's knowledge, wisdom, and especially his patience in helping me through some really tough days. I was shocked and saddened a moment ago when this terrible announcement was made. The last e-mail I had from John was an offer to sit and listen to my complaints about how hard I have it. He was always available to all of us in that way. He was a truly fine gentleman. Your family will be in my prayers. I know that is no consolation now but maybe someday you'll think back on these messages and remember how much John was loved by his co-workers. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Linda and members of your family:
I was saddened to learn of the sudden death of your dear husband, John Elsik. At times such as these, words are unable to carry the full message of comfort and consolation which we want them to bear, but they are all we have. Having experienced the death of my father in 1995, I am aware of the deep emotions which accompany such a loss. Be sure of continued remembrance of him in my prayers and those of all the Brothers here at Lewis.
May the Lord continue to hold you as well as all your family and friends in the hollow of his hand and may you find his comforting presence in the silent power of prayer, in the wisdom of the Scripture, the nourishment of the Eucharist, the beauty of the liturgy, and in all his holy people gathered round you to help us.
I join my voice to the ancient hymn of the early Church:
May the angels lead him into Paradise.
May the martyrs come and welcome him on his way
And lead him into the holy city, Jerusalem.
May the choirs of angels welcome him.
And with Lazarus, who once was poor,
May he have everlasting life. Amen.
I close with the traditional prayer which we Brothers have prayed for over three hundred years:
Live Jesus in our hearts--Forever.
With sympathy and promise of prayers,
Your Brother,
