Patrick Scharfe was my Dad and he could do anything and everything. He could golf, bowl, swim, dive, dance, play basketball, football, and even taught me how to do a cartwheel at about 3 yrs old. He didn't just do those things he did them like a pro and was never an average guy. He did not like rules and I guess I learned to break some because of him.
He was a truly honest man and never learned to lie, and at times was easy to trick when surprising him cause he was not suspicious. I was always proud of him and even though I got angry when he showed up in places I was hanging out with my friends, (even Trition College) I was still proud to have him as my Dad. He was very handsome and looked young and people always commented on his good looks.
He was strong in both mind and body in middle age and I always felt safe around him and knew he would and could protect me. I remember as a young girl of about 5, I thought I saw ghosts at night and told my Dad about it. He tried to tell me that there was no such thing but because I could not be convinced, he told me that the next time that I see one to call him and he would jump out of bed and catch it and we would be millionaires. Unfortunately, it never happened. My Dad was fearless and I also remember being so afraid of a movie that I saw and could not sleep for months after it. On nights when I had a really hard time he would come in my bed and sleep with me. I asked him if he was afraid of the dark like I was and if he could sleep in the dark basement without fear and he said "absolutely", which amazed me.
I could go on and on about him but what I want to really say is that I loved my Dad and could not have asked for a better one. Unfortunately, his life was robbed by Alzheimer's Disease which began at about 70 years old. It is a progressive disease and he just got worse and worse and died from it at almost 81 years old. I love u, Dad!
