Gail and I were neighbors for many years. She lived a floor below me in the same condominium building. Her kindness showed up in unusual ways. One of my more vivid recollections was the day I was trying to exit a commercial driveway off Dempster Street during the evening rush hour. After nearly ten minutes of trying to turn right onto the busy street, she happened to be the one person who let me into traffic. I don't think she recognized my car or that I was the driver. The quiet mitzvahs, done without any expectation of recognition or recompense, are those that strength faith in our common humanity.

Please accept my sincere condolences on Gail's passing. Gail and I were friends in grade school and went to College Hill together. We were also in the same Girl Scout Troop for many years. I saw Gail occasionally (mostly running into each other at the Jewel-Osco in Skokie) and we would reminisce about about the Girl Scout activities and meetings at my house. She was always nice and had a kind heart. Though I hadn't seen her recently, I will always think of her fondly.

I knew Gail from living in the same condo complex. She was a great person and will be sorely missed. May she rest in peace. My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Helfer family.
