I´m soooo sorry to hear the news. I know he passed a long time ago, but I had a very dear friend (Fran Sobie) who I haven´t seen in years, and wonder how she is doing. I wish the family well and nothing but happiness.

We are so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. I'm so glad that we had our 50th anniversary party of the Evil Eyes baseball team in 1999. It was a very happy event and the pictures we took bring back memories of the times we had in Cicero. I remember how Ron begged us to let him play left field. We did and he was outstanding. He's the fifth member of our team to leave us. Al Spagnola, Phil Steffanelli. Bill and Wally Wolf, and now Ron. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

To The Sobiezczyk family: when your future husband and dad played for DePaul, I was a kid in 8th grade and high school (Mt. Carmel). I am 71, graduated from HS in 56; then from UND in 61.
My uncle Bern Williams lived in St. Vincent Parish and I went to visit him and my grandparents at their building at 2442 N. Racine (at Fullerton). Uncle Bern would take me to DePaul basketball games. The announcer then never said Ron Sobie. NEVER.
In the same tone and emphasis that he said "The THREE POINT PLAY," he would say, Ron So-Bee-ES' CHECK' (note the doubly emphasised syllables) for all to hear. Ron was the team captain in his senior year and tho they did not have a big year that year, he was a great team player and a leader in every sense of the word. Later, I became the team captain of the "Lights" at Mt. Carmel in the old Catholic league and I always thought of, as I do today, what a great captain and leader your husband and father was. At the end of the game, after Coach Ray would step over to the other bench to shake the hand of the other coach, Ron Sobieszczyk would cross in front of the scorers' table and do the same thing.
He worked tirelessly all these years in behalf of DePaul; that is true, but the biggest thing he ever did was espouse Christian manhood in every sense of the word and deed. One of my all time heroes.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. When growing up a few years after Ron, my friends and I always looked up to him as an ICON and inspiration. It was a personal pleasure having an opportunity to play on his basketball team at the Cicero Stadium in the early 60's. Ron will be missed, but never forgotten. May God Bless.

Ron was not only my uncle, but he was also my godfather. As kids my brother and I spent a lot of time running down the alley from my grandmother's home in Cicero to play some pool at Ron's tavern. We would play some music on the jukebox and patiently wait for some juicy burgers and fries to come off the grill! Christmas at his home proved to be an even more spectacular memory filled with many gifts, and with many family members.
As what happens often in life, friends and families often drift apart. Such was the case .....
My life as a youth was impacted by Ron in a positive way, and this is how I will remember him.

God Bless

To Ann & the family of Ron:
It was with much sorrow that I read of Sobies passing. He and I attended DePaul at the same time. While he was a Basketball star at DPU I was a photographer for the DPU newspaper and yearbook. I will be praying for his soul.

I grew up acrosss the street from the Sobie's growing up in Morton Grove and played on many baseball teams with Lee. Many fond memories from those days including "borrowing" Ron's Walter Hagen driver for us to hit golf balls at Hynes. My deepest sympathies to the family.

I first met Ron when he transferred to St. Bonaventure in Sturtevant WI. Ron was the greatest basketball player to come out of St. Bonaventure. St. Bonaventure a Franciscan School had a Protestant Coach Svenson who worked pro bono. Coach Svenson ran the Basketball Program for many years and coaching Ron made it all worthwhile for him. I'm proud to say I knew him.
