SHARON HUFFMAN Obituary
Sharon E. Huffman, Ed.D was born December 18, 1941, in Benton Harbor, MI, and died May 24, 2009 in Darien. She is survived by her sons, David Charles Huffman (Lauren) of Vail, Colorado and Michael Robert Huffman (Debby) of Louisville, KY; her grandchildren, Devin and Tatum Huffman; her mother, Esther E. Brantingham of Warren, OH; her sister, Joy Durae Eicher of Palm Springs, CA; and her former husband, Charles Robert Huffman of Palm Springs, CA. Sharon resided in Darien for 13 years. Sharon earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, her Master of Science in Education from National-Louis University in Evanston, her Doctor of Education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. Sharon's very successful twenty years with Community Consolidated School District 181, Hinsdale, encompassed being a fifth grade teacher, mathematics curriculum coordinator, elementary principal (Lane and Monroe), and interim assistant superintendent for learning. Sharon also taught for Greenville County School District, Greenville, SC from 1983 to 1985 and for Woodridge School District 68, Woodridge, IL from 1967 to 1981. Her professional honors were Kappa Delta Pi (International Honor Society in Education) and the Lighthouse Award (Community Consolidated School District 181). Sharon's professional affiliations included Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Illinois Principals Association, National Staff Development Council, Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and many more. Upon Sharon's semi-retirement, she traveled extensively and gave her time untiringly – volunteering with Adventist St. Thomas Hospice, Art Institute of Chicago, Redeemer Lutheran Church- board member, Westside Holistic Family Services- board member, Divine Treasures Consignment Shop.

Our children were very fortunate to have had Mrs. Huffman as their teacher at Oak School, Hinsdale. She was a wonderful, energetic teacher and a very warm and kind person. She will be missed by so many. Our thoughts are with her family.
