John was a man, neighbor, and friend who didn't just exist....he actually influenced you. Each summer in Eagle River, I and the kids would take off on our bikes to hang out at John's shop on hwy 70. We would bump into him at the Youth auction, or take him to dinner at Honey Bear. John's memory, like summer vacations, will continue... But they won't be the same. We miss you.

Dear Nancy, Sheila, and Michael:
I am saddened to learn of John's death. He and I were close friends during high school. I remember the friendship, and being your next-door neighbor, fondly. I am sorry I could not get there for the memorial services.

Nancy, Sheila and Mike, You (and John) are in my thoughts at this very sad time. As are St. Ignatius, Reds, Jansens, the Colonial, trips to Notre Dame games those 1st years out of college, and many other good times with John - often in a cashmere sweater and of course his Porsche. John was always cooler than the rest of us - that's for sure!!

Working with John in Head Start as a new college grad and learning from the greats - Helen Bradley, Helen Gallagher, and Helen Goggin - I remember the good times AFTER work when our close-knit group spent many hours together. Rest in peace after a very full life, John!

John was a lovely, loving, and very funny man. I met him in San Miguel in 2012. When I told him I couldn't swim, he said he could teach me. And, sure enough, at the age of 65, I learned, thanks to John's encouragement and great teaching techniques. He was a sweet, sweet man. RIP, brother.

Nancy, Sheila, and Michael, so sad to hear of your loss. Many good memories of Margaret and later of John as neighbors in Eagle River as well as all of you throughout the years on Catfish. Although I can't make the service, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you

John was one of my supervisors at Chicago Board of Education Headstart Program summer program. I will always remember the over-abundant amount of Irish zest he instilled in the office.

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to read of John's sudden death. My husband and I were friends with John in the late '60s in Chicago. We had such great times together! We remember him as creative, brilliant, and hilariously funny. May he rest in peace.
