It is always hard to lose a loved one, but more so when they are so young. I wish I had known him but as we relatives scatter far and wide, the times of interaction diminish and also the joy of knowing each other. What doesn't diminish is the desire to wish those left behind comfort in their memories and in the knowledge that others care and want to remember you all in prayers of condolence. Through Theresa Perna, I am proud to have "known" about Nick and what an absolutely fantastic person he was. It appears that he touched SO many lives in so many ways and was a true warrior. My heart goes out to Noreen and her children, family and friends of Nick's. May you rest in peace!

I knew Nick in my childhood and remember his quick wit and contagious smile. He had me laughing in the halls of Wilder-Waite Grade School. It's not surprising to hear that he inspired so many in his lifetime. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. He is with God now.

My deepest sympathies to Noreen, their kids and all of Nick's family and friends. He touched so many lives in such a positive way. That was evident by the "standing room only" crowd and stories shared by his best friends at the funeral mass. Rest in peace Nick.

Nick had such a positive impact on our son Foster's love for soccer as his coach at ayso. He and Ryan were in religious education together for years. We would often see Nick at 8am Mass at St Ben's and he always greeted us with his huge smile and cracking jokes. He was an absolute gem. Prayers and thoughts for the entire Hardgrove family.

All of what I read about Nick was not a surprise to me! He was a terrific student athlete and no doubt a wonderful husband and father. To Ron, from father to father my heart feels your loss, remember those times you spent alone with your son n buddy!

My condolences to all of the Hardgrove Family but even more so to those of whom I knew meaning Noreen, Lauren & Ryan. I'm even more saddened that I couldn't attend the services to show my utmost respect to a wonderful guy. Nick was always my Cardinals buddy anytime I visited Chicago. I love you Nick & will miss your ways & smile.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Hardgrove family. God Bless you all through these most difficult times and beyond. We have lots of wonderful memories of Nick growing up together, playing ball, riding bikes, playing kick-the-can and all kinds of fun things! He was always so kind, funny, happy, fun and sweet! We know your pain and hurt as my wonderful Brother, Steven died 2 years ago at the age of 47 also. My Mom then died of a broken heart & cancer last year. Hold each other and your memories tight to your heart and your mind and remember he is with God and in a wonderful place! Heaven has gained another beautiful Angel and he will always be watching over you all! May love, peace, blessing and God be with you all! My tears are flowing with you in this great loss to all! I am greatly saddened to hear of Nick's passing. My most sincere condolences go out to the entire Hardgrove family. I have very fond memories of "Mark's Little Brother," who always was recruited to play football, basketball, baseball, and wiffle ball with us when I was a kid in Ravenswood. Even though he was usually the youngest one playing, he was always a great competitor with a positive attitude.

Nick knew when to be a gentleman and when to be irreverent. He knew when to make people laugh and when to make us all pay attention. He knew how to be present, right here and right now, and make you feel included in that. And he knew that the most important thing is family -- his love of Noreen, Lauren, Ryan and his entire extended family was understood and felt by all who met him. Our family will miss his wit, his energy, his sense of fun, his kindness, and his generosity. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends.

What an amazing person! I am so sad he has passed and hope he's in heaven eating his chicken sandwich with pudding! We used to meet for lunch at the U of I cafeteria and I'll never forget him dunking his chicken sandwich in his pudding saying, "why do you have to eat lunch first and then dessert, when you can eat them at the same time!?" You never were without a good laugh in the company of Nick.
God bless his soul. May the angels surround his family and may the healing love of Christ be in their hearts always. My deepest condolences.
