BARBARA JEAN GAA

Barbara Jean Gaa, nee Clark, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 after an extended illness.

Barbara was a talented artist known for her creative watercolors and other artistry. For many years, her paintings have been exhibited in local business venues with a group of artists known as "BrushWorks". Barbara's artistic expression extended to her gardens, fashion and decor, always with a touch of whimsy. Throughout her life, she exhibited a glorious attitude and a generous heart. She was a dedicated animal advocate and supported many charitable causes.

She attended Long Beach City College before her marriage in 1960 to Thomas Gaa. She and Tom made their home in Costa Mesa where she was a homemaker while her children were young. Later, she became an administrative assistant to managers in several different Southern California businesses. She and Tom moved to Paradise in 1992 where she served as administrative assistant to Butte County Supervisor, Fred Davis before retiring.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Janet, her husband, Mark Berdan, and their children, Erika, Lauren and Drake of Poway, CA; daughter, Julie Gaa, her husband, Doug Crawford, of San Diego, CA; son, Brian, his wife, Kirsten, and their children, Adam and Zoe of Newport Beach, CA; sister, Janet, her husband, Bob Brown of Chico, CA; brother, Brett Zimmerman of Chico, CA; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Private gatherings in her memory are planned.

I'm so glad I had the fortune of knowing Barbara. She was a strong force, in her love of life and love of the people around her. I loved her paintings and cherish every one of those she sent me. Tom, you and Barbara were a haven for me when I made my short trips to visit you in Paradise. I will miss her even though we didn't stay close, and my memories of her all include her laugh and smile.
