Jean Mayfield Obituary

Jean Cudney Mayfield, 79, a native New Yorker from Westbrookville and longtime Lecanto, Florida resident passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020.
Jean retired from New York State service and moved to Lecanto with her late husband Ronny many years ago. She returned home often to paint scenes from the Adirondack Mountains a place that she loved. Jean quoted David Thoreau who best described her thoughts of her New York Mountain home: "I come to my solitary woodland walk as the homesick go home…I get away a mile or two from the town into the stillness and solitude of nature, with rocks, trees, weeds, snow about me….It is as if I always met in those places some grand, serene, immortal, infinitely encouraging, though invisible companion, and walked with him."
Jean is survived by her brothers and their wives Bob and Karen, Herb and Janie; her sister and husband Gail and Deane; her daughters, Kim and husband Bill, and Colleen and fiancé Kevin; grandchildren Billy, Jenine, Craig and Tyler; plus 3 great grandchildren: Lucas, Braxton and Asher along with her many nephews and nieces. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Services for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Heinz Funeral Home, Hwy 44 W, Inverness, FL 34453.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until the hour of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1902, Inverness, FL 34451.

Jean shares a very large place in my heart and forever will. Jean was a great inspiration to me and my passion in life. Jean blessed me with her smiles, her laughs, her thoughts, her time, and her love. A day doesn´t go by without a prayer in my heart that she is at peace, and that I will see her again.

Jean was such a special person in my life. I'm having a hard time finding words equal to the feelings in my heart. She was my rock, my tutor, my shoulder to cry on, my partner in crazy, fun times and so much more. I respected her and learned from her as my colleague at work. I admired her wonderful talents. She even tried to teach me to paint. There could not be a more perfect friend. Wish I was there to send her on her journey knowing God will hold her in the palm of his hand. I send her my love.

My deepest condolences to the Jean's family. In my mind Jean had so many more years to enjoy... in my heart Jean will live on. Oh, how I miss you, Jean.

Jean had an eye for art - and what beautiful art she produced! Jean also had a unique talent to view situations and able to see a perspective on life and love - oh, what I would give to see through her eyes. Though Jean often complained of her wrinkles, I would direct her to the mirror to help her see the beautiful woman I saw. Jean's eyes could also tell you exactly how she felt - whether happy, sad, worried, relaxed, etc.

Back when I had my open heart surgery (August, 2014), I tried hard to get into a rehabilitation facility...to not put that burden on Jean, but I was not at the age required. Jean took on this challenge - caring for me during my recovery and getting back on my feet. Jean was such a comfort during so many trying times of my life.

Jean brought her artistic talent to my musical stage, and introduced me to so many beautiful songs that she and others loved to hear me play. I can still envision her strolling and swaying to the music, and singing along.

There are so many words I can use to describe Jean: Elegant, beautiful, caring, giving, insightful, and so many more. No words, however, can describe or express my love, or my feelings that Jean is no longer with us anymore. I have the belief that Jean is in our Heavenly Father's loving and comforting arms - at peace, full of happiness and joy; and together again with loved ones she had once lost, and also excited that one day we will ALL be together again. XOXOXO
