Dorothy Warner Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth Warner

Cincinnati - Warner, Dorothy Elizabeth of San Diego and Cincinnati died Sunday, January 24th, 2021 in Home Hospice in San Diego after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia from which she had been in remission for many months. She was born November 27th, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of John Stanley Hill and Ethel Miriam (Heidelberg) Hill. She is survived by son Lincoln Andrew Warner, daughter-in-law Gabriela Remhof-Warner, grandchildren Zoe and Enzo all of San Diego, her sister Miriam (Hill) Keeler and brothers Richard Hill and John Hill.

Dorothy's friends called her Dottie. She grew up in Silverton, suburb of Cincinnati where she enjoyed swimming, water ballet and tennis at the Silverton Swimming Club. She attended Kennedy Heights Elementary School, Shroder Junior High and graduated from Woodward High School in 1965. She also attended the University of Cincinnati.

Dottie's passion from the time she was small was music and she took many years of classical piano lessons. But her real love was singing. She would sit next to her mother Ethel at the piano while they both played and sang at the top of their lungs just about every day. She sang with her mother at the All Saints Episcopal Church in the choir for many years. She also sang in the choir at school.

In 1981 her passion for singing came alive when she started performing with pianist Fred Gary at Arnold's Bar and Grill. They played together for 23 years. When Mr. Gary passed away in she continued to sing at Arnold's until 2018 with such talented and renowned musicians as Ricky Nye, Wayne Shannon and Phil DeGreg on piano, Roy Tate on trumpet, John Mooter on trombone and Chris Carmichael on guitar and cornet. These were some of the most enjoyable and rewarding years of her life and career.

Because making a living as a single mom in Cincinnati was very difficult as a musician, Dottie also worked full time.. She was employed by Huntington Bank for the last ten years before retirement. Even with Dottie's busy schedule she also had a passion for painting in watercolor, pastel and acrylic and spent many, many hours painting.

Dottie had one son, Lincoln. Over many years they developed a very strong bond and Dottie felt much pride and love for him. Lincoln was dancer and Music Theater performer during his time at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati and is currently a Mental Health Registered Nurse at the San Diego VA Healthcare System. Dottie moved to San Diego in 2018 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law and two wonderful grandchildren.

Dottie will be dearly missed.

The world lost a beautiful, compassionate, talented woman. I was honored to be one of her closest friends for many, many years. I know she is in heaven, singing with the angels. My deepest sympathies to the family.
You will be missed, my sweet friend.
