Elizabeth KORRELL Obituary

KORRELL Elizabeth Wellinghoff Korrell, age 42, of Seattle, Washington, died on Saturday, November 13, 2010. She was a brilliant, beautiful, focused, and warm mother, wife, daughter, friend, and colleague who touched and changed many lives, not just in the way she lived with the terrible cancer that invaded her body, but in the way she compelled so many to grasp every day fully, to act with purpose and, always, to live a happy life, no matter what you were confronted with. She was graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, and clerked for the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals. She excelled in all her professional endeavors, but she was most passionate about her children. She was proudest of the fact that, together with her husband Harry, she was raising wonderful children, Abby and James, who have an abundant curiosity of life and (like her) are warm, caring, smart, and funny. Her other passions, shared with her children, were travel and reading. The family traveled widely the past few years, but the most important trip she ever took was to Ireland this summer. Elizabeth and Harry took their honeymoon there 15 years ago, and in August they retraced their steps with their children, completing a circle and bringing her peace. Elizabeth is survived by Harry, James and Abby, her parents Jim and Marilyn Wellinghoff, her sister Kristen Wheeler, and countless other family members and friends whose lives she touched. We now must face the world without her, trying to show the same strength and joy she displayed. Elizabeth requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (PO Box 19024, mailstop J5-200, Seattle, WA 98109-1024 or www.fhcrc.org).
