Jimmie Crawford Obituary
Asheville - Jimmie (Jim) Wade Crawford of Asheville, North Carolina, died January 27, 2021, at the age of 87.
Jim was born November 30, 1933, to Blanche McInturff Crawford and Jerry M. Crawford in Bakersville, North Carolina. He attended Mills River School for high school and graduated with Western Carolina College's Class of 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Jim served as a Fire Boat Captain in the United States Army during the Korean War. From 1958 to 1997, he worked for the Asheville Citizen-Times as a reporter, city editor, assistant managing editor and Associate Editor. He was an avid league bowler for over 50 years at both Star Lanes and Sky Lanes in Asheville, North Carolina. He was a scorekeeper and coach for both of his son's Erwin youth league football, baseball and basketball teams. Jim enjoyed reading novels, fishing, picnicking and playing poker for fun with his family.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, Wiley Dean (Bud) Crawford.
He is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Virginia Anniece Kolb; sons Scott (Betsy) Crawford of Asheville, North Carolina, and Ryan (Gina) Crawford of Maryville, Tennessee; grandchildren Colton and Seth Crawford of Maryville, Tennessee, and Hannah and Mitchell Crawford of Asheville, North Carolina; niece Melissa Erwin (Mike) of Weaverville, North Carolina and great niece Kayla Tague and great great niece Ana Reyes of Lake Mary Florida, great nephew Daniel Tague of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and nephew Gary Crawford of Yancy, North Carolina; nephew Tim Justus (Diana Howell) of Mooresville, North Carolina, and nephew Michael Justus (Amanda) and great niece Alayna of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and niece Cindi Ledford (Dave) and great nephew Eli of Asheville, NC.
A service will be held to honor Jim at 2:30 in the afternoon of February 7th, 2021, at Trinity Baptist Church (216 Shelburne Road, Asheville, North Carolina, 28806). Reverend's Ralph Sexton and Dwight Parrish will officiate.
