James Moran Obituary
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late John J. and Lila (McDonald) Moran. He was a graduate of St. Gabriel High School, and received a degree in fine arts from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. He resided in the Hazleton area and relocated to the Wilkes-Barre area in 1992.
Throughout his career, he was a professional graphic artist and freelanced in many advertising agencies.
Jim was a professional artist and depicted many historic scenes of Hazleton and the Anthracite region. He was a past member of the Hazleton Art League and Wilkes-Barre Art League. Many of his works were displayed in both venues.
He served briefly in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his love of art, he was an avid student of history, particularly World War II, and was a collector of vintage cars.
He was a professional pilot, and well-known at the Hazleton Airport.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John; and a sister, Mary Beth Gallagher.
Jim is survived by the following family, a brother, Michael Moran and wife, Marianne Lewes, Del.; brother-in-law, Eugene Gallagher, Sugarloaf; nieces and nephews, John Gallagher, Esq., Hazleton; Eugene Gallagher, Exton; Frank Gallagher and wife, Wendy, Quakertown; Molly Gallagher, Drums; Michael Moran, Columbia, Md.; and two great-nephews, Justin and Chase Gallagher, Chester Springs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Annunciation Parish, Church of St. Gabriel, 122 S. Wyoming St., Hazleton. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home Inc., 532 N. Vine St., Hazleton.
Jim was a recipient of a heart transplant in 1994. His family would greatly appreciate donations in his memory to the American Heart Association or the Hazleton Art League.
