Gary Lane Obituary

Weary of reading obituaries noting someone's courageous battle with death, Gary L. Lane wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, drinking beer, and raising hell for more than eight decades. He enjoyed booze, guns, motorcycles, fishing, camping, golf, and most of all, a fan of younger women until the day he died, April 8, 2021. Gary adored the ladies, and they adored him. He attracted more women than a shoe sale at Macy's. He got married when he was 18, to Margaret, resulting in four children, his son Terry, and daughters Carmen, Julie, and Tracy; unfortunately, it did not last. Gary was no quitter, however, so he gave it a shot once more and married Patricia in 1963, gaining two stepchildren, Dan and Diana, in the process. This union resulted in his youngest daughter, Rebecca, cementing our "yours, mine and ours" family. Pat precedes him in death after more than five decades of marriage. Gary was world-renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. He always told you the truth even if it was not what you wanted to hear. He was also known for his work ethic, and the principle that hard work is worthy of reward, which he promptly spent! A 'Celebration of Life' will be held in lieu of a service, due to his friends not being able to attend because they decided to beat him to the Pearly Gates. His family invites anyone who remembers Gary to a celebration of his life on May 15, 2021 at Perry Lake from noon - 4:00pm at the Dedication Point Shelter on the SE side of the dam. He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell, especially those we have not already heard! davidsonfuneral.com

I never met the man, but his obit makes me regret not having had the privilege! I hope that someone is kind enough to write me such an obit when I finally go belly up! Cheers to the man for a life well lived!

Best obituary ever, for a one of a kind character. From the 1980s super bowl parties at Aunt Jane and Uncle Gene Hahn's, to the Golf Course, to the Park Inn, and Skinny's, I have a lot of fun memories of Gary. I'm sure a lot of funny stories have been shared over the past couple days, from folks across northeast Kansas. Its sad he's gone, but I'm pretty sure he'd want everyone to have a cold one and a laugh in his honor.

First off I couldn't have described Gary any better than what was wrote in his Obit.. Most definitely Hardhead and Very little Patience..a lot like me x 10. Tried to take him fishing as much as I could after we closed shop and built hand rail on his boat so he could get in and out .. didn't matter if we were fishing crappie or catfish if I was catching fish and he wasn't he would accuse me of not putting him onto the top of the fish.. spent most of the day moving the boat 12 foot so he could have the spot where I was.. was Happy when I learned he had replaced me with his Son for a fishing Partner and glad he got to spend the last of his fishing days he had to fish with Terry and get to reconnect with him.. RIP My Friend.

We met Gary at the Park Inn Tavern in the early 80’s , We had 1 million fun times there, Laughing, drinking, playing cards and of course telling stories! The last time we ran into him was not that awful long ago at Skinnys bar and Grill, as usual he said come over here Darlin’ and give me a hug! We randomly tell stories about Gary all the time or use his one-liners to this day and probably always well! He was definitely one of a kind. rest well Gary, you will always be remembered by us!

You will be missed by me, sorry I stopped raising hell and drinking August 8, 2002. I still tell it like I think it is. I will never forget sitting in a bar drinking with you and Marvin and hearing the tales of my ancestor's adventures in bootlegging, ah those were some days and apples don't fall far from the tree.
