James Neal Obituary
His law partner, Aubrey Harwell, said Friday that Neal died Thursday night at a hospital in Tennessee and had been diagnosed with cancer.
In 1964, Neal successfully prosecuted Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa on jury tampering charges in Chattanooga, Tenn.
A decade later, Neal was the special Watergate prosecutor who won convictions of H.R. Haldeman, John Ehrlichman and then-attorney general John Mitchell, all one-time aides to Richard Nixon.
Neal won the 1964 conviction against Hoffa while serving as a special assistant to then-U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy.

Jim Neal spoke for me when I ran for the state Legislature. He introduced me to the Supreme Court when I was admitted to the bar. He also introduced me to his wonderful wife, Dianne. I was awed by him always; yet always comfortable in his presence. A true giant has passed.
