I moved to Clinton in 1981. Just a college graduate getting started in my first job here near Clinton. I met Dr. Sam at Church at FBC Clinton. We became friends.
I was renting an apartment and was looking for cheaper rent. Dr. Gore let me rent his same studio house that I believe his father or family member lived in. I married about a year later and lived there mu first year of marriage.
I could not have had a wonderful landlord to be my neighbor.
A few months ago I got to visit him at the Baptist Health Plex. We visited a lot and he had a great sense of humor.
Southern folks talks slow, but I never had met anyone that talk really slow like Dr. Sam. Always full of thought and wisdom.
He will be missed.
Sorry I was out of town and just learned about his passing.

I took a sculpturing class (night class) under Dr. Gore in 1988. I still remember it well. Dr. Gore was low keyed, warm and personable. He was a true master of his trade. I have one piece of sculpture (a bust) that I had a problem shaping the nose. He shaped it for me. So, I'll always have a small piece of his work whiich I treasure.
Dr. Gore lived a long fruitful life and will be missed.

Sam taught me how to express my faith in God through art. He inspired me to dream and encouraged perseverance. Above all, he taught me art is not just what you may do, but who you can become in the process.
