Kenneth Quinn Obituary

Dr. Kenneth M. Quinn

Jackson - Prominent Christian Artist Kenneth Quinn Passes Away The 81-year old Mississippi native died of congestive heart failure Monday at an independent living facility in Ridgeland, family members say.

After three decades teaching at Whitten Junior High, and 15 years at Mississippi College, the Jacksonian leaves behind an amazing legacy of distinguished service.

One of the first students in the Mississippi College Art Department in the 1950s, Kenneth Quinn polished his skills to become a gifted artist and incredible teacher. His heart was always with the Lord and helping transform students into future artists.

Mississippi College established the Kenneth M. Quinn Scholarship in his honor. Donations can be made to the fund at http://www.mc.edu/give or the Mississippi College Office of Advancement, Box 4005, Clinton, Mississippi 39058.

Survivors include his sister Shellye Prim (Jack) of Flora, niece Judy Chapoy (Andre) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, nephew Gene Fortenberry (Dotty) of Madison, one great-niece and several great-nephews.

School officials say a celebration of life service is set for the Clinton campus this fall.

Mr. Quinn was such a game changer in my life when I met him. He's without a doubt one of the most inspiring people I've ever been around. This man made me believe in myself again. He was so different, and larger than life. I admired him with deep reverence. Thank you, my mentor and friend.

I was in Mr. Quinn's (as we called him) Art Class at Whitten Jr High School in Jackson, MS in 1970 or 71. He made a great impact on me and others. His faith in Jesus was off the charts. He spoke of Him often. I and others would travel with him to school events in own personal vehicle. He believed in School Spirit. He was truly a gifted man of God and he loved people and his students. I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven. Dr. A M (Mike) Haase

Mr. Quinn, my first art teacher at Whitten, instilled a love of art that I still have today. He was one of the best teachers I ever had the pleasure of learning from. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.

I was in the first 9th grade at Whitten where I met Mr Quinn. Then he had a stroke and was sent to Westeria Gardens for rehab. When I found out I went to see him and he remembered me (I was across the hall). He was a Great Man RIP!!
