Shirley A. Herbert

1930 - 2021

age 90, of Mentor, died January 27, 2021 at her home. She was born September 23, 1930 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. A graduate of New Philadelphia High School class of 1948, she received her degree from Baldwin Wallace College and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Shirley will be remembered as accepting and kind hearted to everyone, always having a concern for the well-being of others, and possessing great but quiet wisdom. She cherished her friends who were a priority in her life, and maintained life-long relationships with many including her sorority sisters from Beta Sigma Phi. A loving and supportive mother, she was deeply devoted and proud of her children and grandchildren. She adored her husband Russell of 66 years, and treasured the wonderful experiences they shared during their travels and active social life. Her infectious smile and gentle spirit will be missed, but will remain in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew her. Her departure has saddened many that she brought joy to, but there is great solace in knowing that she is reunited with family members and friends she longed to be with again. Survivors are her children, Lori (Tim) Kennedy of Atlanta, GA and Gregg Herbert of Pasadena, CA, and her grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kyle Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell W. Herbert; her parents, Herbert and Maxine Bichsel; and her three brothers David, Dean and Don. Private family services with inurnment will be held at Mentor Cemetery, and Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Shirley, contributions may be made to Lake Humane Society in Mentor.
