DELMAR — Gertrude M. "Gertie" Grandick, 79, of Delmar, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, November 3, 2009, at Westwing Place in DeWitt. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Delmar, with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Delmar, Iowa. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa where a Scripture service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Gertrude Margaret Elsner was born March 9, 1930, in Sugar Creek, Iowa, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Timmer) Elsner. She attended school in Sugar Creek. She married John P. Grandick Jr. on August 12, 1947, in Petersville, Iowa. He died on August 27, 2001. She was a homemaker and a had been a daycare provider for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its Rosary Society, Delmar. She was known for her baking. She enjoyed going out to eat and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Rodger) Schnoor of Monmouth and Catherine Wiese of Elvira; 3 sons, Ronald (Teresa) Grandick of Delmar, John Grandick III of Camanche and Bernard Grandick of DeWitt; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Elsner of DeWitt; and a special caring and loving Goddaughter Becky Grandick. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, Norbert in 1988; a son-in-law, Ron Wiese; 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
