David Huckins Obituary

LOUDON – David J. Huckins, 46, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born June 20, 1971, in Concord and was the son of David and Belinda Huckins and Diane and Roger Keniston.

He graduated from Merrimack Valley High School in 1989 and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from St. Joseph's College in Maine 1993.  As teenager, he started working for Pittsfield Gas & Oil and later worked for a couple of different oil and propane companies before starting his own company, Huckleberry Propane & Oil, LLC, in 2001.  He previously was President of the Canterbury Softball League and a long-time board member and coach for ICB Youth Basketball and Penacook Pride AAU programs. He started his high school coaching career as the Merrimack Valley JV Girls coach and later became the MV Girls Varsity coach until recently stepping down.  He coached his own daughters since they were little girls and touched the lives of so many other girls over the years who he thought of as "family" even after they graduated.  He was a player on the Merrimack Valley Boys basketball State Championship team that won their first State title in 1989 and 25 years later he coached the Merrimack Valley Girls basketball team to their first title in 2014.

He treasured time spent with his family and friends particularly the times in Errol.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching his girls play basketball and field hockey.  He enjoyed time with his dogs and cats.  He was all about "giving back" and his generosity has often touched so many in his communities.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Tracy Huckins.  Two daughters, Cassidy Huckins and Carly Huckins of Loudon; two brothers, Bradford Huckins and his wife, Anyela of Gilbert, Ariz. and Keith Keniston of Pittsfield; nephew, William Keniston; and nieces, Isabella and Camilla Huckins and Morgan Keniston. He also leaves behind Quentin Huckins, who was always like a son to him, as well as several members of his Huckleberry Family.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. at one of his favorite places, the Merrimack Valley High School gymnasium in Penacook. The gymnasium doors will open at 9 a.m., please allow yourself time to park and get seated for services to begin at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at the Loudon Centre Cemetery in Loudon.  There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Independent Community Basketball (ICB) Youth Basketball Program, PO Box 6574, Penacook, NH 03303.

The Wendall J. Butt Funeral Home of Penacook is handling all arrangements.

I knew Dave from him being Lee's basketball coach when Lee was just a kid. I was always impressed at his patience with the boys that age so I can just picture him with your girls and him coaching others throughout the years. I know he will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to you and your girls.

David was one hell of a guy. Always there when you needed him. That made him a great ball player, business owner, coach, person, and most importantly...a great father to his daughters and husband to Tracy.
To his family, I hope you find some comfort knjowing that David will live on through all of the people he's influenced in the very short time he had with us in the physical form. His spirit, his energy, will forever be a part of everyone he worked with either personally or professionally.
His guidance and influence will continue to help all of us....just as he did before...when we really need it.

Godspeed Dave.
