Wilma Dean Johnson was born on August 30 1927, in a small town East of Houston, Texas, to Joseph Thomas and Lillian Tullos Johnson. The youngest of 7 children, she moved with her family to Houston at the age of 8 years old and graduated from high school there in 1944. Due to World War II, Wilma was unable to continue her education and went to work for the Weather Bureau where she learned to draw weather maps from coded information received on teletype machines and to read the different types of weather instruments for updating forecasts three times each day. After the war and just before Christmas in 1946, she met the love of her life. Wilma Johnson and Arnold Bruner were married the following June of 1947. They raised five children: Marc, Stephen, Pat, Gayle, and David. Wilma and Arnold were together in life for 29 years until 1976 when Arnold lost his battle with diabetes and heart disease and was called home to his Heavenly Father. Wilma's love for Arnold continued after his death, and she remained loyal to their relationship throughout the remainder of her life. In 1985, Wilma Bruner was sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Arnold to be married eternally. Wilma's life was filled with service. She served her family and her fellow men and women with undying selflessness in every community where she lived. In 1980, at the age of 53, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a member of the church, she served diligently in many capacities. She served several times as a Relief Society President (leader of the women's service organization in the local church congregation), as a Primary President (overseeing the instruction and care of all children under the age of 12 in the local congregation), and as a Young Women's President (responsible for the spiritual instruction and development of all girls between the ages of 12 and 18). She also served as a full-time missionary at the genealogical library on Temple Square in Salt Lake City for one year.
Wilma Bruner has touched the lives of thousands in a profound way. Well known for her kindness, elegance, and grace, Wilma made everyone feel important. She entertained the rich and the famous and the poor and downtrodden and treated each with the same level of kindness and attention. Wilma lived in Texas and Utah and spent the last number of years living by her daughter in Colorado. Her number one goal that she shared is to have her family be together forever in the eternities. She set the example for all to follow. Wilma is survived by her 5 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday May 20th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2495 Ed Kharbat Dr. Conroe, Texas. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 11am to 11:45am. Funeral Service will begin at 12pm. Burial will follow in the Decker Prairie Cemetery. We loved getting to know Wilma over the last few years. We moved into her congregation with four special needs children under the age of five we had just adopted from foster care. Wilma always had kind words and her beautiful smile for each of us no matter how frazzled or how loud our little crew was. She made everyone feel loved and valued. If I had a question for her, she would find an answer. I got to go visit her each month for a year as her visiting teacher in the LDS church. Visiting teaching is to uplift and support those we visit. I came away from our visit with so much more than I ever gave her. She loved her family dearly and had a wonderful life full of good people and experiences. I loved listening to her stories and seeing the pictures and newspaper articles she had collected about her family and friends over the years. She is deeply missed. What a beautiful woman. We have been so blessed to have her in our lives.

Anything I could write will be inadequate to sister Bruner's life, but she made such an impression on me. I was a young women new to relief society in 1985 and sister Bruner was the perfect example of what a woman should be.
One specific thing I remember about her is my first relief society luncheon. I didn't know how to cook and we were all supposed to bring a spring salad to share. The best my mom could coach me to make was a potato salad. It wasn't very good, I'm afraid. She ate mine without batting an eye and thanked me for bringing it. And I will never forget her curry chicken salad. It was such a small thing to her, Im sure, but it made a lasting impression on me.
She was the shining example of kindness and carried herself with a grace that was not often seen in the 80s and beyond. She was always beautiful in every aspect of her life and I will miss her, truly.
